Alan Daniel Grove

  Alan Daniel Grove, age 70, of Meadville Pa passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at his residence. He was born May 3, 1945 in Titusville, PA the son of the late Alan Richard Grove and Marjorie Bryant Grove. Known to his family as Dan, and to his friends and staff at The Arc and UCIP as Alan, he enjoyed being around others, observing and laughing at his friends antics, caring for his many bird feeders and fish, and drinking lots of coffee. In his 29 years residing with The Arc, he loved playing bingo at the local community center, hiking various nature trails, vacationing at Canadota Lake in the summer, and taking regular trips to Kraynaks and the Erie Zoo. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. He enjoyed watching the weekly games on TV in his favorite recliner and attending a game at Heinz Field every year. He especially enjoyed attending day program at UCIP throughout the week where he spent his time socializing with his friends, volunteering, swimming, and fishing. Alan was also a Special Olympics athlete in track & field and bowling. Alan is survived by a sister: Cheri Humes of Centerville, PA, nieces and nephews: Terry Grove of Mercer, PA, Darlene Bryan of Titusville, PA, Jammie Humes of Centerville, PA, Dawn Humes of Meadville, PA, a great-nephew: Ethan Humes of Meadville, PA, two brothers: Richard Grove of Hartford, CT, and Randy Grove of Titusville, PA, a sister-in-law: Darlene Grove of Titusville, PA. He is also survived by many friends within The Arc community as well as the staff that watched over him. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded in death by two brothers: Leonard Guy Grove and Terry Grove. The Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Rachael Johns, officiating, at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
