Arthur D. Lodge

Arthur D. Lodge, age 86, of Meadville, passed away on Sunday April 5, 2015, at Park Avenue and Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He retired from the U.S.Air Force after 23 years of service and was then employed by the State as a counselor for the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (for 10 years). Mr. Lodge was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, May 22, 1928, a son of Harry C. and Maybelle M. Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Sidney, William, and David. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Barbara, and their children: son Douglas (Charmaine) of Cochranton, and daughters Bonnita Carlson of Denver, and Catherine (Dana) Johns of Meadville. He is further survived by seven grandchildren: Sara Mumby, Gamaliel Lodge, Mondara Herbs, Jera Lodge, Kristiane Reger, Rob Johns, and Scott Johns; and 10 great-grandchildren: Braunwyn, Finian, Lucia, Griffen, Zephyra, Caitlin, Erika, Ayden, Kaelyn, and Christopher. Mr. Lodge graduated from Allegheny College in 1966 at the age of 38. A high school drop-out, who by the time he enrolled at Allegheny carried credits from the : U.S. Armed Forces Institute, the Army Training Program, Cisco Junior College (Abilene, Texas), and the University of Denver. He was past president of the Meadville Area Little League and a past treasurer of the Meadville Kiwanis Club. He served on the Salvation Army Advisory board and the Northwest Pennsylvania Planning and Development Commission, and served 11 years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Round Table. Art loved to play golf, bowled in 3 leagues, played bridge ( until he could no longer be persuaded that he was required to abide by the rules and follow suit). An excellent woodworker, he made all of Barb's weaving tools and re-finished a house full of antiques. He possessed a sharp wit, and loved to engage just about anyone in conversation, particularly if he could prove that he was right. He always got in the last word ! His final arrangements are private, and will be at the convenience of his family. Memorials in memory of Art may be directed to the Meadville Public Library, or to Allegheny College's James T. Linaberger Scholarship Fund; which supports scholarships for first generation students (Allegheny College, Box 21, N.
