Carl L. Stone, age 70, of Meadville passed away peacefully in his sleep with his beloved dog, Shelby by his side on September 23, 2019. He was born in Meadville on June 2, 1949 to the late Eugene and Dorothy (Morris) Stone. He married Donna Young on October 11, 1976. She preceded him in death February 15, 2018.
Carl was as 1967 graduate of Saegertown High School. He worked at Meadville Forging as a tool and die maker and retired after 40 years of service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Special Forces in 1969 and served in Vietnam 503 Battalion, Charlie Company 2 nd Platoon. He served his country proudly; He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and gambling.
Carl is survived by a daughter, Gwen Hannold of East Springfield, PA; a son, Jim Walton; two grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Hannold of Cochranton and Brandon Hannold of Saegertown; 5 great grandchildren and a cousin, Doug (Charlotte) Woods.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and several aunts and uncles.
A private memorial service will be held with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2006. Carl will be laid to rest with his wife at Huber Cemetery.
