Carolyn “Sue” Roof, age 77, of Edinboro, PA passed away peacefully on Monday October 14, 2024 after numerous extended illnesses. She was born on February 8, 1947 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Robert and Maxine (Larimore) Sloniger. She married James Robert “JR” Roof on October 19, 1968. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2015.
Sue graduated from Bremen High School in Midlothian, IL and then attended Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, IL. She held a number of positions in the retail food business over her career in addition to raising her children. Nicknamed “Barracuda,” she retired as front-end manager of the Giant Eagle in Edinboro, PA. She lived in Edinboro until her husband passed away then spent her time with her family in Garrettsville, OH and Meadville, PA where she gained an extended family and so many friends.
Sue was witty and sharp and loved by many. She never met a stranger. She had a strong faith and loved Jesus. She also enjoyed sewing and embroidery and playing the organ.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Tony) Hilliard and Jamie Cranston and her son, Jim (Nikki) Roof; her grandchildren, Brandon (Michaela) Roof, Kera (Zach) Hazen, R.J. Steiner, Jacob Hilliard (Nicolena), Kylie Roof (Devin), Anthony (Rebecca) Hilliard Jr., Katharyn (Brandon) Manley and Elizabeth (Josh) Hunter; great grandchildren, Addisyn, Ryan and Anthony Hazen, Aletheia, Rebecca, Cadence, Zoelle, Persephone and Jameson Roof, Ariella, Kanan and Kato Hilliard, Gabriella Hilliard, Dylan and Weston Hunter, Nikolai, Viktor and Katya Manley; her sisters, Sandy (Prentiss) Wild, Denise (John) Mica and her brothers, Darrell Sloniger, Brad Johnson and Darren (Shelby) Sloniger and many in-laws, nieces and nephews; cousins; an aunt and uncle and others. She loved all of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister-in-law, Beverly Sloniger and her son-in-law, Doug Hilliard.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
