Catherine Smith

Catherine A. (Cathy) Merritt Smith, 62, of Venango, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at her residence.
Cathy was born March 6, 1960, in Meadville, PA, the eldest child of the late Gerald W. Merritt and Adrienne J. (Mehlo) Merritt.
Cathy was a 1978 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School, and a graduate of the J.H. Thompson Hair Styling Academy in Erie. She was a homemaker and a caring mother to her children. She also cared for her parents during their declining health. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, and her fur babies, Halo and Freya.
Cathy served on Venango Borough Council for several years and was council president at one time. She also served as an Auditor for Venango Borough and served on the Venango Borough Election Board for many years.
Cathy is survived by her three sons, Jesse L. Merritt and his wife, Maureen of Mint Hill, NC, Jeremy A. Smith and his wife, Rosalie of Virginia Beach, VA, and Justin J. Smith at home; three grandchildren, Ashley Merritt and her partner, Katlyn Merritt of Meadville, Finley Merritt, and Adrienne Merritt of Mint Hill, NC; three brothers, David W. Merritt of Venango, Kevin G. Merritt of Cochranton, Kenneth G. Merritt and his wife, Joyce of Shiremanstown, PA; three nieces, Katlyn M. Zimmer of Erie, Alison J. Merritt and Abigail J. Merritt of Cochranton, PA; and many cousins.
In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by her sister, Deborah S. (Debbie) Zimmer and her sister-in-law, Regina P. Merritt.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Sunday, May 8, from 4 PM to 6 PM, and on Monday, May 9, from 12:30 until time of the funeral service at 1:30 PM at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA with Pastor David Acker officiating.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Meadville Medical Center, the Venango Volunteer Fire Department and Meadville Ambulance for the care given to her over the past few months.
