Cecelia Franczak (nee Sloncka ) of Meadville, PA passed away on March 7th, 2014, after an extended illness, at Wesbury, Meadville. She was 91 years old. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 25, 1922, the daughter of Michael and Zophia Slonczka. She was married to John J. Franczak for 40 years; until his passing in May of 1984. Prior to moving to Meadville, at the age of 76, she lived in Parma and Parma Heights, Ohio; where she was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. John Bosco Catholic Church. While playing her favorite pastime, pinochle, at the Meadville Active Aging Center, Cecelia met: James V. Costello and they became devoted companions until his passing in September of 2009. She was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church (of Meadville) the Fifty-Five Club, the Senior Citizen Card Club and the Hunter's Ridge Lunch Bunch. Cecelia's son-in-law James F. Hatheway passed away in 2013. Also passing away before her were: brothers and sisters-in law : Floyd and Marian Stark, and Roman and Henrietta Stark; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Lena and Joe Piktel, and Caroline and Adam Salamon; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Lottie and Stanley Chudzinski; and her brothers-in-law; Stanley Malik and Peter Salamon. Passing away before Cecelia also were her nephews:Steven and Robert Piktel, and her niece Janice Salamon; and her grand nephew: Greggory Piktel. Mrs. Franczak is survived by her daughters:Adele Hatheway and Eileen (Keith) Kidner, grandchildren: Edward J. (Debbie) Hatheway, Esq.; Holly Passmore, Helen (Casey)Devine and Ian Kidner; great grandchildren Christopher J. White and Ryan P. Passmore, and Cecelia's sister Julia Malik; sister and brother -in-law Stanley and Sophie Franczak and sister-in-law, Mary Salamon; as well as many nephews , nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. A visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM in St. Brigid Catholic Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville, PA, just prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM . Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Father Jonathan Schmolt, Pastor of St. Brigid's. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brookpark, Ohio in March a memorial committal service will be held there.
