Charles “Chuck” J. Snyder, age 76, of Meadville, PA formerly of Minoa, NY passed away with family by his side on Monday December 26, 2022. He was born on October 12, 1946 in Rensselaer, NY to the late Charles J. and Grace (Hastings) Snyder. He is survived by the love of his life Elaine (Babic) Snyder whom he married on August 17, 1968.
Chuck graduated high school from St. John’s Academy in 1964. He then earned his Associate’s Degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration from Hudson Valley Community College. Later, he attended LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY and earned his BS in Accounting in 1995. He worked for GE for 21 years. After receiving his degree from LeMoyne he worked as a New York state tax auditor until his retirement in 2009. Chuck proudly served in the US Army and completed a tour in Vietnam from 1970-1971. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Minoa, NY. He was very involved in many community activities. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post#9596 of East Syracuse, NY, a current member of Post #52 of Meadville, PA, a life member of the American Legion, a member of the US Power Squadrons Boating Club and a member of the Star Society Motorcycle Club and the American Legion Riders. He attended and volunteered at Americade annually as well as many Children’s Miracle Network rides. He enjoyed teaching motorcycle safety as a road instructor. He was also a volunteer driver for DAV and a volunteer with many other Veterans’ organizations. He loved camping and cooking and spending time with his grandkids, as well as family and friends. He was fondly known as “Papa” and often referred to as “Declan’s buddy.” He was a dedicated father devoting countless hours to coaching, mentoring and volunteering wherever he could.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine, he is survived by his daughters, Michele Smith and her husband, Doug of Rochester, NY and Dr. Jessica Kriston and her husband, Josh of Meadville, PA and his grandchildren, Gwen Smith, Reilly Kriston and Declan Kriston and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jola Buck.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday December 30, 2022 from 1-3 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335. A service and military honors will be held at 3 pm at the funeral home.
