Charles Stevens

Charles Stevens, age 78, of Meadville, PA passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at home with his family.  He was born on October 5, 1941 in Meadville, PA to the late Donald and Betty (Willetts) Stevens.  He married Alice Cargo on June 15, 1963.  She survives.

Charles graduated from Meadville High School in 1959.  After serving in the United States Army, he worked at Abex until entering into his wife’s family business, Cargo Cleaners.  In 1984, he and Alice took over the business until 2019.

He was a cub scout and boy scout leader for many years.  He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing and the great outdoors and spending time with his family, whom he loved so dearly.

In addition to his wife, Charles is survived; one daughter, Patricia Haines and her husband, Ken of Cochranton, PA; one son, Chuck Stevens Jr. and his wife, Bev of Meadville, PA; four grandchildren, Austin Stevens, Vanassa Haines, Samantha Haines and Jessica Porter and her husband, Matt; 2 great-grandchildren, Genevieve and Gabriel Porter; three sisters, Shirley Greenalch of Meadville, PA, Jeanne Stevens of Meadville, PA and Sandy Crider and her husband, Tim of Butler, PA; one brother-in-law, Gordon Benninghoff and several nieces and nephews.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a sister, Nancy Benninghoff and a brother-in-law, Bill Greenlach.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 from 6-8 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.  A private funeral will take place with military honors.
