Charles "Tug" Roae

Charles J. “Tug” Roae, age 73, of Meadville, PA passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 14, 2023.  He was born on November 7, 1950 in Meadville, PA to the late Charles J. and Betty (Mulvey) Roae.  He married Kathleen M. Behrens on November 13, 1971.  She survives.

Tug graduated from the last class of St. Agatha’s High School class of 1969.  Later in life, he attended Mercyhurst University and earned a degree in 2005.  He first started in the workforce with Erie Lakawana Railroad and worked for them for several years.  He then entered the Tool and Die Industry and worked as a tool grinder at Talbar for 23 years. He also worked in sales and marketing for Meadville Tool Grinding and Bravor Tool.

He was a member of St. Agatha’s Roman Catholic Church.  Tug was very involved in the Academy Theater.  He enjoyed spending time with his many friends there and was involved in many shows.  He was a Broadway Certified Theatrical “flyer.”  He also loved doing yard work and took great pride in his yard. He enjoyed rescuing cats, was a bourbon connoisseur, was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan and enjoyed playing computer games. He was a proud commissioned Kentucky Colonel.   He was a longtime American Red Cross volunteer.  He instituted the regular blood drives held at the Elks Lodge. He traveled to New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina Rescue Relief and he was in charge of procurement of food and other supplies for the stricken area.  He was also a Lifetime member of the Meadville Elks Lodge, where he was a PDDGER. He raised funds for the National Foundation, Chairman of the Elks National Memorial Restoration in Chicago, he was very involved in the Elks scholarship programs and he also instituted the Elks Flag Retirement Ceremony in Meadville.

In addition to his loving wife of 52 years, Kathie, he is survived by his daughter, Shannon Roae and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday December 19, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335 with an Elks Funeral Service at 7 pm.  Funeral service will take place on Wednesday December 20, 2023 at 11 am at the funeral home with Father Kyle Seyler officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at St. Hippolytes Cemetery.
