David Richard Maddy, age 72, of Chapel Hill, NC, formerly of Meadville, PA passed away at home on January 3, 2025 due to complications of diabetes. He was born on October 7, 1952 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Richard “Dick” Maize and Anna Mary (Fleck) Maddy.
David was a 1970 graduate of Meadville High School. He attended Thiel College from 1970-1971 and then enlisted to serve in the US Army. He served in the Army from 1972-1975 during the Vietnam Era. He spent some of his time in Panama and was a proud member of the United States Army Band playing the French horn. After his discharge from the military, David attended Mt. Aloysius College in Chautauqua, NY and earned his piano tuning certification in 1979.
Music was David’s entire life. He worked as a piano tuner, collected records and just loved music. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting lighthouses and spending time in nature. One of his favorite places was North Carolina. He was a very independent and free spirited person that made an impression on anybody that he met. He was very philanthropic and donated to several causes, but his passion was for supporting lemurs. He was kind to everyone.
David is survived by his daughter, Deanna Howles and her husband, Jason of Guys Mills, PA; his step-son, Shawn Stover and his wife, Kim of Sewickley, PA; his grandchildren, Noah and Brylee Howles, Alaina Stover and Taylor Poll; four brothers, Jonathan Maddy and his wife, Marsha of Franklin, PA, Peter Maddy of Reno, NV, Ben Maddy and his wife, Jacqui of Simsbury, CT and Dan Maddy of Meadville, PA; his former spouse, Cheryl Maddy of Meadville, PA; his nieces and nephews, Alex Maddy, Rebecca Maddy, Katherine Maddy and Will Maddy and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday January 24, 2025 from 2-3 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335. A service will be held at 3:00 pm at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Keith Mitchell. David will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 26, 2025 beginning at 4:00 pm at Riverside Brewing Company, 1 Fountain Street, Cambridge Springs, PA 16403.
