David Smock

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, David Duane Smock, 85, of Conneautville passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side. After several years of medical adversities, David remained strong, full of humor, and grateful for all those surrounding him.

Born on July 13, 1941, in Meadville, PA to Milford and Ellen Smock, David was one of four children. On December 14, 1963, he married the love of his life, Sara (Stagl) Smock. He was a devoted husband who had dated Sara since age 16. David attended Conneaut Valley HS and proudly served his nation in the US Army in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW Edinboro/McKean Post 740 and the American Legion Conneautville Post 0615.

Throughout his life “Dave” embraced many roles. He was an incredibly hard worker, having spent years as a laborer and a heavy equipment operator. Dave worked for C.P. Flaugh Co. alongside his father, and Pipeline Systems with his brother Pete. He enjoyed operating a backhoe and often pointed out the many buildings in the Meadville area where he helped dig footers.

A true gentle giant, Dave combined humor with love, kindness and generosity. The Smock home was open to all. The company, especially nieces and nephews, enjoyed lengthy stays, vacations, and everyday adventures with their Uncle and Aunt. Days were filled with sporting events, Gator rides, board games, cards, cooking, tinkering, long chats, and most importantly, their guidance. He spoke fondly of times with many special friends throughout the decades, whether snowmobiling, staying at camps, dancing, or crashing parties. And no matter the outing, Dave was the chosen driver. He loved being on the road, and cherished peaceful moments with his wife on a balcony in Myrtle Beach, one of their many vacation spots.

In addition to his wife, Dave leaves behind many who miss him dearly: sister Dmaris Whitehill of CA, brother Pete Smock (Dorothy) of Springboro, sister-in-law’s, Kathy Heim (Chuck Heald) of Harmonsburg and Janice Skendall (John) of Meadville.

Uncle’s nieces and nephews left with unforgettable memories: Jon Whitehill (Trish), David Whitehill (Yasha), Paula Varee (Doug), Paul Molnar, Michael Molnar, Missy Heim, Craig Heim (Michele), Mandy Heim, Scott Kaczmorski (Jennifer), Krista Kaczmorski, Kelly Smock, Holly Dickinson (Ryan), Julie Leiloglou (Iason). Great nieces and nephews: Taylor, Holden, Karla, Kendra, Kevin, Heather, Erica, Trevor, Mike, Chasity, Tanner, Kori, Megan, Nathan, Marlee, Maxx, Bryn, Emma, Elizabeth, Keira, Noah, Nash, and Athena. Plus, several great-great nieces and nephews. Dave also leaves behind friends and chosen family: Tony, Bill, Doug, Dave, Ken, Denise, Bob, Ryan and many more.

A special thank you to all who helped Dave medically along the way for their special care. “It takes a village.” Dave knew it and appreciated you all.

In addition to the couple's parents, he was preceded in death by brother Wayne, brother-in-law Robert, and sister-in-law Carol.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Conneautville or Springboro Ambulance Services. A private burial will take place at Spring Cemetery.
