David Smock Jr.

October 16, 1924 — April 13, 2025

David Smock Jr., age 100, of Meadville, PA joined his heavenly family and the love of his life on April 13, 2025. He was born on October 16, 1924, in Meadville, PA to the late David and Beatrice (Davison) Smock.

On November 16, 1946, he married Lorraine Gladys Wills. They shared a wonderful life together for 61 years. She preceded him in death on December 6,2007.

David graduated from Meadville High School in 1942, and worked at Dunn’s Bakery in Meadville, PA before enlisting in the US Navy. He proudly served his country as a PT boater from 1943-1946 during WWII and was part of the liberation of France. He was a Petty Officer 3rd class.

He built a career working at several businesses as an industrial insulation specialist and retired from Lake Erie Insulation at the age of 78. An avid outdoorsman, you could often find him tending his garden-which he took immense pride in-happily fishing in local waterways, and befriending neighborhood and stray cats. He had a great love of God, country, and especially family. And lest we forget Smith’s hot dogs-the second love of his life.

David was a gentle kindhearted man, with a quick wit and enjoyed sharing jokes and stories about his life.

David was a longtime member of the Zem Zem Shrine Club and spent many years driving his motor patrol go-karts at local parades, with his fellow Shriners. He was also a member of the local Masonic lodge #408 in Meadville.

He was a member French Creek Community Church.

David is survived by his son, David Smock and his wife, Kathy of Hurlock, MD and his daughter, Jill McGowan and her husband, James of Meadville, PA; six grandchildren, Kristy Vilkie (Joe), Matt Walker, Carrie Knipe (Morgan), Michelle Kearns(Chad), Andrea Carr(Trent) and Adam Hoke(Tanya Lawrence); great grandchildren, Noah Blake, Sophie Kearns, Jack Kearns, Avery Carr, Riley Knipe, Reagan Knipe, Caiden Knipe, Logan Walker; one sister, Nancy Rist of Elizabeth, PA; his son-in-law, Robert Eidell and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Eidell and his brother, Paul Smock.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on Saturday May 10, 2025, at 11:00 am at French Creek Community Church, 18320 Conneaut Lake Rd., Meadville, PA.  He will be laid to rest with his wife at Blooming Valley Cemetery.
