David Timothy Ward of Guys Mills, PA passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, August 24, 2018 at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center. David was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Edward & Gladys (Howley) Ward on December 24, 1942. He served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 169 and the American Legion Post 381. He is a retired police officer for the City of Pittsburgh and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police PA State Lodge and Fort Pitt Lodge No 1. If you were to ask him what his greatest accomplishment was...he wouldn’t hesitate for a second. He would get a big smile and say my children and grandchildren! If you would stand still long enough he’d show everyone and anyone any new pictures he had!Anyone who ever met him instantly knew he was something special with a heart of gold and was one of the most selfless people ever created. He loved to travel and would spend every chance he had visiting with his family. He had a great sense of humor and was always wanting to joke around. He loved playing “Gotcha Wars” with his grandkids!David is survived by his children Desiree Ward, Venango, Aaron (Michelle) Ward, Holly Springs, NC and Brandon (Kristie) Ward, Harpers Ferry, WV. Three grandchildren Zachary, Emma & Arya Ward. As well as by Lois Ward-Merritt (Don) of Venango. He is also survived by brothers Richard (Carolyn) Ward, Allison Park, Francis “Pete” Ward, Pittsburgh, Martin Ward, Edmund “Eddie” (Barbara) Ward Gordonsville, VA; sister Mary Ann Quigg, Pittsburgh, and sister-in-law Jacquelyn Ward, Pittsburgh. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Gladys (James) Walker, brothers: Edward, John “Jack” (Maria) Ward, Thomas “Tom” Ward; a sister-in-law: Joann Ward; and brother-in-law: Robert “Bob” Quigg. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate David’s legacy, and are invited to attend his viewing on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 1pm to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm at the Kenneth G. Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville PA 16335 (located in the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home).The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 in the funeral home, followed by a service at Desiree’s house, A 16440.
