Donald Quay Porter

March 3, 1933 — December 13, 2014

Donald Quay Porter, age 81 of Meadville, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Park Avenue Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Meadville. Donald was born March 3, 1933, the son of the late Kenneth and Doris Porter. He married Laura Schaffner. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Laura J. Porter who died just 12 hours prior to his death. Don was a volunteer firefighter in his earlier years and he worked alongside his father at Porter Electric doing small repairs. He also took a job at Greendale Cemetery mowing grass. Don was a man of few words but was full of love in his heart for his family. The love and devotion that Don had for his wife Laura is something that was noticed by all. They were always there for one another through the good and the bad and they were inseparable. It was something very special. We can all learn from their example. In his younger years, he loved to go fishing with his brother in laws and his niece. He also enjoyed family picnics and the occasional horseshoe and lawn jart game. The bibles promise of a resurrection hope right here on earth is something that Don believed will happen soon. He knew that death is like sleeping and that there will be a time when loved ones will be awakened from their sleep and restored to perfect health on a beautiful paradise Earth never having to die again, under God's Kingdom rule. His nieces and nephews can say he was the best uncle ever. Don is survived by nephews Timothy Schaffner, David Tokos, Bill Schaffner, and nieces Cheryl Anderson, Tracy Comeau, and Annalee Allen. In addition to his parents, and his wife, Don was preceded in death by his sister Edith. Don will be laid to rest alongside his wife Laura at Kiser Hill Cemetery. There will be no service or calling hours.
