Donald A. Saul, 91, of Meadville, PA passed away on January 7, 2022. Born in Conneaut Lake, PA on July 15, 1930, he was the son of Howard Earl Saul and Eunice (Taylor) Saul. In 1977, he married his beloved wife, Pearl (Brown Cocolin).
He is survived by his wife; six children and stepchildren: Donald Saul of Lacey, WA, Janet (Paul) Stobbe of Cary, NC, Marcy (Mark) Klutchka of Harleysville, PA, Stephen (Barbara) Cocolin of Conneaut Lake, PA; LuAnn (Howard) Schroeder of Meadville, PA, and Pamela (James Cherrette) Paglia of Simi Valley, CA; twelve grandchildren: Andrew, Aaron, and Ben Stobbe, Amy Wingfield, Brianna Hardison, Steven, Lauren, and Paige Klutchka, Anne Pietropaoli, Alex Cocolin, Alaina Koltash, and Diane Marks; seven great-grandchildren; a niece, Sandi Watkins; and several cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard Earl Saul, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Hardenburg and a nephew, Steven Saul.
After graduating from Meadville High School in 1948 where he was a member of the Senior Seven and National Honor Society, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS John W. Weeks. Don joined Talon in 1950, where he worked in finance for nearly 43 years. In 1993, Don and Pearl moved with Talon to Charlotte, NC, and after making wonderful friends participating in square dancing, bowling, and playing cards, they returned to Meadville in 2012.
From early childhood, Don’s true passion was gardening. He loved annual and perennial flowers and could often be found on his hands and knees with a trowel in his hand. Always ready for a game of cards, he loved playing 500, Pinochle, Hearts, and Hand and Foot; Uno and Phase 10 were family favorites. Don also enjoyed using his computer to communicate with family and fellow gardeners, and to seek the elusive perfect Solitaire score.
Don was long-time member of Emmanuel Community Church serving as treasurer and singing bass in the choir. While in Charlotte, he was an active member of the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ.
Per Don’s wishes, a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
Given Don’s fondness of animals, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Rd., Meadville, PA 16335.
