Doris Briggs

November 13, 1931 — February 3, 2024

Doris Ann Briggs, age 92, of Saegertown, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday February 3, 2024.  She was born in Meadville, PA on November 13, 1931 to the late Fred and Anna (Kindervater) Jacklett.  She married Granville “Barney” P. Briggs on February 28, 1948.  He preceded her in death on March 12, 2006.

Doris attended Blooming Valley schools and got her GED later in life.  She worked as a cook at Saegertown schools, Bethesda Children’s Home and Theta Chi Fraternity at Allegheny College.  She attended North Meadville Church of Christ.

Doris was active in Saegertown Women’s Improvement.  She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and she was a member of Sew Happy Christian Quilters.  She ran the food pantry at a local church and she was active in many spaghetti dinners and rummage sales at various churches.  She gave to Samaritans Purse and made quilted book bags for children in Africa.  She loved making quilts and doing different sewing projects with family and friends.  She also loved spending time with family and friends, picnicking, quilting, gardening, cooking and baking and helping others.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Beverly K. Shea and her husband, Daniel of Saegertown, PA and her son, Larry A. Briggs and his wife, Janet of Conneaut Lake, PA; her grandchildren, Monica, Joleen, Jason and Joshua; her great-grandchildren, Aysha, Torrey, Kiarra, Aerica, CarlyAnn and Ashley; her great-great grandchildren, Xander, Kaia and Bralen; her brother, Arthur “Sonny” Jacklett and his wife, Marleen of Meadville, PA and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeff and her sisters, Donna and Helen and her brother, Louis.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday February 10, 2024 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.  Funeral service will take place at 12:00 pm with Minister Bryon Schulz of North Meadville Church of Christ officiating.  Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
