Dorothy "Arlene" Heffern

April 25, 1921 — March 22, 2019

Dorothy “Arlene” (Andrews) Heffern, age 97, of Conneaut Lake, PA, passed away March 22, 2019 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Home.  She was born April 25, 1921 in East Fallowfield Township to the late Paul Leroy and Thelma A. (Reaugh) Andrews.  She married Walter Leroy Heffern in June 11, 1938.  They were married for 69 years, before Walt passed away March 14, 2008.

Dorothy Arlene attended East Fallowfield Schools and Conneaut Lake High School. She worked at Talon in Meadville as an assembler and in various levels of zipper manufacturing throughout her career at Talon, and retired after 37 years.  Her husband, Walt, was enrolled in the Merchant Marines, and worked at McCrosky’s Tool & Die until his retirement.

She was a dedicated housewife, mother and grandmother, always cooking delicious meals, baking decadent desserts, and giving thoughtful gifts and cards to her family.  She enjoyed going on bus trips with her sister, Pauline, and became a member of the Red Hat Society in her later years.

Dorothy Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; twin sons, Robert Leroy and William Earl (who passed at birth); and James Walter.  Besides her family, she was preceded by her two sisters, Betty Peterson and Pauline Davis, and brother, William Andrews.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Vance (Rosemary) Heffern of Georgia, Valerie (Dr. James) Scarpino of Jamestown, NY, Troy Heffern of Florida, and Tamara Soules of Florida; seven great-grandchildren, Lisa, Dr. Julie, Laurie Scarpino; Jadyn Heffern; Gretchen, Emma and Hunter Soules.

Friends and family are invited to call at Dickson Funeral Home in Conneaut Lake on Saturday, March 30 from 10am-12pm.  There will be a service at the funeral home at 12pm with Chaplain Sam Marchetta officiating.  A private burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery.
