Dwayne was a 1954 graduate of Strong Vincent High School in Erie. He joined the US Navy in 1954. He served at Bainbridge, MD; Norman, OK; Millinton, TN; and Patuxent River, MD; where he was an original member of Airborne Early Squadron 15 (VW-15) and attained the rank of Aviation Mate 2nd Class (AD2). His duties were assistant to the Chief Mechanical Officer and maintaining aircraft engines. He also served in Argentia Newfoundland where the squadron flew the Atlantic Barrier protecting the US during the Cold War. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He married Margaret Damico on April 1, 1958; she survives. He was hired on the Erie Railroad in 1958 working in Meadville as a car repairman/inspector and train yard foreman. He retired from Conrail in 1998. While he worked on the railroad, he also opened and operated the Italian Cousins Pizza shop in Meadville. He was a member of St. Brigid's Church. He was a member of Crawford Lodge 234 F&AM serving as Worshipful Master in 1986 and 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan.
