Edward L. Dixon, age 79, of Meadville, PA passed away peacefully with family by his side at Wesbury on Sunday May 19, 2024. He was born on May 27, 1944 in Conneaut, OH to the late Oscar and Verna (Biscoff) Dixon. He married Rachel Johnson in 1963. She preceded him in death in 1997. He then married Peggy (Hogan) Jones in 1983. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2021.
Ed graduated from Rowe High School in 1962. He was trained in auto mechanics. He worked as a conductor for Erie Lackawanna Railroad and then Conrail/CSX, from which he retired.
He was a member of the Eagles Club FOE #429, BPOE #219 Meadville Elks, Masonic Lodge #234. He drove transportation for children to and from their appointments for Shriner’s and he also rode with the Shriner Zem Zems in parades. He was also a member of several of the local fire department social halls. He was a lifelong rider of Harley Davidson motorcycles and would only purchase GM automobiles. He enjoyed golfing and wintering in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Cindy Dixon Clary of Pittsburgh, PA and his son, Brian Dixon of Meadville, PA; his grandchildren, Alexander Mitchell of Pittsburgh, PA and Rylee Dixon of Scenery Hill, PA; two sisters-in-law, Joan Dixon and Audrey Drummond and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his five siblings, George, Roy, Verna, William and Gilbert.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday June 2, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Wicked Hollo,18208 Cussewago Rd., Meadville, PA.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital-Erie, 1645 W 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
