Elaine K. Rudy

Elaine Kim Matteson Rudy, age 72, of Guys Mills, PA passed away surrounded by family at Embassy Park Avenue on Monday April 1, 2024.  She was born on November 5, 1951 in Meadville, PA to the late George and Marie (Webster) Matteson.  She married Joseph Rudy on May 8, 1976. He survives.

Elaine was a 1969 graduate of Townville High School.  She earned her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Edinboro University in 1989.

Elaine started her teaching career at Randolph Head Start.  She then earned her certification in Title 1 Reading Recovery and became a Reading Recovery Specialist at Penncrest Schools and Cussewago Elementary. She was the Leader of the Literacy Leadership Team at Maplewood Elementary and the Literacy Coordinator at Maplewood Elementary.  She also taught adult education for Penncrest School District, was on the Program Improvement Team for Penncrest and was a mentor for Title 1 reading program for Cambridge Springs.  She was named to the Chancellor’s List for Educational Communications and Outstanding Educator of Crawford County Headstart and she was published in the Marquis 72nd Edition of Who’s Who in America.  After her retirement, Elaine joined Phi Delta Kappa.  She enjoyed working outdoors in her flower gardens, camping with family at their Hermit Springs camp and making jewelry for her business, “Elaine’s Treasure Chest.” She also enjoyed spending time with her special pets (Grace, Bella, Joules, Hank, Fawn and Josie.)

In addition to her loving husband of 47 years, Joe, she is survived by her three daughters, Angela Crawford and her husband, Milan of Saegertown, PA, Julie Riley of Meadville, PA and Tamara Zwick and her husband, Jared of Simpsonville, SC; her grandchildren, Meighan Canter (Chase), Garrett Crawford, Kayla Riley, Jessie Riley (Lexi), Asher, Jensen, Noa and Teddy Zwick; one great grandchild, Mila and one on the way and two sisters, Marlene Wilhelm (Wilfred) of Little Cooley, PA and Karen Downer (John) of Roanoke, VA and sisters-in-law, Linda Matteson and Mary Matteson and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, George Matteson and Marie Dowd, she was preceded in death by her brothers, an infant, Gary Matteson, Robin Matteson and George Matteson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

We would like to thank Aseracare Hospice and their amazing aides, social workers, chaplains and nurses and the staff at Embassy of Park Ave.
