Elvira Radocy, 92, of Meadville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 2nd, at her home, with loving family members at her side. She was born in New York City, on October 31, 1923. Elvira’s parents, who preceded her in death were Henry Andrew Gmitro and Katalin Racz Gmitro. She married Frank Radocy on January 19, 1946; Frank passed on December 20, 1988. Elvira graduated from Julia Richmond High School, New York City and had worked at the J.C. Penney Store in NYC; also at Peabody Engineering-Stamford Connecticut, and at the Stamford Library. She volunteered for 40 years at the Stamford Hospital Thrift Shop. Elvira was fiercely independent and was always proud that she was a “New Yorker”! She and Frank were married immediately after WWII and resided in Darien, CT, where they raised their children in ways traditional of the WWII generations. Elvira moved to PA in 1999, more than a decade after her husband passed, to live near her daughter and family. She was able to live on her own until the last 6 weeks of her life. Her feisty spirit and loving presence will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Surviving Elvira Radocy is her daughter: Jean Bartlett (Alan) of Meadville, her son Robert Radocy (Lesley) of Berthoud, CO, and three grandchildren: Joel Bartlett (Laura) of Glen Ellyn, IL, Joshua Bartlett (Erica) of Centerville, PA, and Rachel Gerken (Timothy) of Breckenridge, CO. Also surviving are great-granddaughters: Eliana Bartlett and Heidi Gerken (both born in 2015), many beloved nieces and nephews, and her caring Forest Hills neighbors. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents and husband, was a brother Arthur Gmitro. Memorials may be made to te Meadville Public Library 848 N.
