Emil E. Samec, 66, of Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. He was born August 11, 1948 in Harborcreek, PA, the son of the late Joseph A. and Dorothy Henderson Samec. He married Diana Z. Armagost on December 22, 1966. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2011. He was a Highvoltage Lineman and a member of IBEW Local 1319 for over 20 years; a devoted Scouter, and a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #219. He enjoyed helping with gun raffles and flag retirement ceremonies. Emil was an avid hunter and loved being outside, whether working or just enjoying nature. His greatest joy was simply walking through the woods on his property. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed helping kids learn, grow and better themselves in every aspect of their life. He served as the Assistant District Commissioner of Washington Trails District of Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and earned his Brotherhood. He conducted numerous Arrow of Light ceremonies for Webelos Cub Scouts crossing over into Boy Scouts and provided mentoring to Boy Scouts. As an active member of the Springs Rod & Gun Club, Emil organized many events and promoted gun safety. He taught Hunter & Trapper Education courses through the Pennsylvania State Game Commission and Springs Rod & Gun Club for many years. Emil was also a mentor to many young hunters, teaching them safety during hunting and respect for the animals being hunted. He is survived by his daughter Tina (Matt) Decker, his son Joseph (Brenda) Samec, his daughter Lisa (Steven) Metlak, his daughter Kimberly (Jeffrey) Coleman, and ten grandchildren, as well as his companion Betty Kelley, siblings Elizabeth (Bernard) Ball, Russell (Marge) Samec, Arlene Schwindlein, Colleen (David) Poeta, Richard (Judy) Samec, Cindy (Wayne) Beer, Linda (Tim) Carris, Deborah Samec, Catherine (James) Sonney, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Diana, parents Dorothy Henderson Samec and Joseph Samec, and brothers Joseph Samec, Vincent (Tony) Samec, and Christopher Samec. Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday, September 19, from 7 to 9 PM and on Saturday, September 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM, at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville. A memorial in his honor will be held on Saturday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m. at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home.
