Erika Palmer

April 22, 1940 — February 9, 2022

Erika “Stübeling” Palmer, 81, of Meadville passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Wesbury Nursing Home. Erika was born April 22, 1940 in Steinheim, Germany to the late Eva and Johann Stübeling. She met her husband, Donald E. Palmer, when he was stationed in Germany. They were married on December 6, 1957 in Steinheim, Germany and had been married for 60 years at the time of his death.

Erika graduated in 1956 from high school in Steinheim, Germany. She resided in Centerville, Linesville and Harmonsburg before settling in Meadville. Erika was a full-time homemaker while raising their three children. She enjoyed spending time with her family and the family pets and also worked part time for a few years at Kuhn Tool after her children were grown. She loved her husband, her children and grandchildren. Erika enjoyed cooking, baking, reading her German magazines and books, watching British mysteries and comedies, and collecting porcelain dolls. As a young girl she was into gymnastics, loved music, dancing and especially the Vienna Waltz and her pet goose that would follow her into town to the butcher shop. Prior to her marriage she worked near her home in a calendar factory. As the youngest in her family, she enjoyed taking care of her nieces and nephews and often taking them nearby to the Main River in her home country.

Erika is survived by her daughters Angela Peterson & Evelyn Palmer (Duane Smith) of Meadville, her son Donald J. Palmer of Nevada and her two grandsons, Brandon Peterson (Samantha Hays and her daughter Serenity) of Cochranton, Pa and Zeth Palmer of Colorado.

We would like to thank the staff of Wesbury for the care that they provided to Erika during her stay there.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Hans, Franz, Wilma and Greta and her beloved Cocker Spaniel Heidi and cat Friskie.

Erika was a member of Saint Agatha’s Roman Catholic Church.

Due to her love of animals, the family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Sat. Feb. 12, 11-1pm, 1pm service at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
