Eugene Calvert Sr.

September 1, 1945 — February 6, 2024

Eugene E. Calvert Sr., 78, of Conneaut Lake, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Born September 1, 1945, in Meadville to the late Bernard Calvert Sr. and Evelyn (Calvin) Calvert on September 1, 1945. Eugene married Rosemary Winiecke on December 28, 1966. Rosemary (Mama) preceded him in death on March 18, 2023, after 57 years of marriage.

In Eugene’s earlier years he attended Conneaut Lake schools and worked for Greenville Steel Car, Penn-Dot, and East Fallowfield Township at the same time beginning his own dairy farm. He was a hard worker who supported his family, which he loved more than anything.

Eugene was happiest when he was doing the things he loved. His interests included hunting, fishing, wood working, spending time outdoors, cruising the countryside and sitting at Fireman’s Beach watching the lake with Mama, being with his family, drinking insane amounts of coffee, eating as much dessert as possible, and “just goofing off.” He also loved sitting on his porch with Mama watching the jets fly over their house at sunset, the animals in the field, and listening to the birds. He was always there to joke with you when you were feeling down and kept his sense of humor right up to the end.

Eugene is survived by a son, Eugene Calvert Jr and his wife, Jennifer Calvert (Harmonsburg, PA); a daughter, Kandice Zorn and Rusty Smith (Meadville, PA); Grandchildren: Nicole Calvert and her fiancé, Evan Sanzari (Meadville, PA), Karissa Zorn and Devin Slagle (Chicago, IL), Zachary Calvert and his wife, Kaylie  (Meadville, PA), Angela Kucharski and her husband, Nick  (South Charleston, Ohio), Kaitlyn Calvert (Harmonsburg, PA);  two Great Grandchildren, Lane Bailey (Meadville, PA) and Thea Calvert (Meadville, PA); a sister-in-law, Shirley Calvert (Hartstown, PA) and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Eugene was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bernard Calvert Jr., and Charles Calvert Sr; a sister-in-law, Ruth Calvert and a dog Spanky.

Calling hours will be held at Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N. 2nd St., Conneaut Lake on Monday, February 12th from 12-2 PM with services to follow at 2 pm with Pastor Jim Tubbs officiating.   Eugene will be laid to rest in Rocky Glen cemetery in Adamsville, Pennsylvania.
