Fred E. Swartzbeck

Fred E. Swartzbeck, age 77, of Meadville, PA passed away at his residence on December 10, 2022.  He was born on December 11, 1944 in DuBois, PA to the late Frederick O. and Florence E. (Cushing) Swartzbeck.

Fred graduated from Meadville Area High School in 1962. In the 1960's, he served in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic in Korea.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the State University of Colorado in Forestry and Wildlife.  He worked for State and Federal Forestry Services throughout the United States.  Those experiences took him from the Everglades, to the shore in South Carolina, the mountains in the western states, the wilds of Alaska, and finally to the National Forest in Pennsylvania. He also received training in dog grooming in New York City.

Fred loved to fish and hunt in his younger years. He was an avid reader and could often be found in the library or local bookstore. He loved his nieces and nephews and great nephews.

He is survived by his brother, Gary Swartzbeck and his wife, Debra of North Huntington, PA and his sister, Lorie (Tom) Darcangelo of Meadville, PA and his four nieces and nephews, Scott (Jennifer), Amber (Jess), Brett (Jennifer) and Jennifer and his three great nephews, Jake, Nate and Danny, and many cousins.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents.

From his quiet demeanor to his gregarious sense of humor and everything in between, Fred taught everyone around him to slow down and enjoy life.  As his niece said, "he always made us feel special".  Thanks, Fred.

As per Fred’s wishes services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

He will be laid to rest with his parents at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
