Fred married Verna M. Waid in November 1953 and she survives. He was a general contractor and a carpenter for his father, Homer Waid Construction, for 20 years; he then moved to California and worked there as a carpenter. He was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. He loved to watch stock car racing and woodworking in his shop.
