George F Wright

George was a graduate of Youngstown's South High School, received his B.A. degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and his Master's degree, Psychology from the University of Akron. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War era. He was formerly employed as a personnel director at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, and held the same position at the Lake County hospitals, East and West, in Lake County, Ohio, and at Erickson Tool Company in Solon, OH. He worked on the Greater Cleveland Growth Broard in the 1960s. Prior to that, he was a long-time executive with Ohio Bell. He enjoyed politics and spent the last 30 years after his retirement as a frequent participant in local political and civic groups. He was a co-founder of the local Council of Governments during his term on the Crawford Central School Board, and served as an officer of the local Libertarian party, Taxpayers Action Network, and the Citizens Against Government Waste. As an 11-year member of the Senior Corps of Retired Executives, he advised many local businesses and volunteered on the Parkside Commons Project for six years, eventually becoming a resident there. In 12 years with the Senior Environmental Corps, he performed water testing and macro invertebrate studies in French Creek and three tributaries as a member of the Source Water Protection Advisory Committee. In 2009, he also helped with the first county prescription drug disposal drive, and the second Council of Governments Tire Recycling Project. He spent many years on the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs and Economic Development Committee, served several terms as a board member of the Crawford County Drug and Alcohol Executive Commission, proudly chaired the Senior Center Veterans Salute Committee that organized Veterans Day observance program at the Lew Davies Community Center, and advised the Meadville PAC on the Patriot's Day remembrance.
