Glendora Jeannette Hawk Adsit

Glendora Jeannette Hawk Adsit, 81, of Conneaut Lake, PA died unexpectedly, and peacefully, on February 12th 2015 while visiting her daughter, Melissa Reitnour and her family in Phoenixville. PA. Glendora was born on October 13 1933 in Corunna Indiana. She was the daughter of Curtis F. and Mina M. Hawk. Glendora moved with her family to Geneva in 1938 and has been a life-long resident of the Conneaut Lake area since then. She married Walton Wayne (Abe) Adsit on November 26 1953. They were married for over 50 years before his death in 2005. She worked as a registered nurse until the present time. She graduated from Conneaut Lake High School. She was also a graduate of Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing. She pursued advanced degrees while being a working parent. She graduated from Villa Maria College with a Master's in nursing. She also held Master's degrees in school counseling and was a certified nurse practitioner. Glendora worked at Meadville City Hospital as a nurse and an instructor for the Meadville City Hospital nursing school. She transitioned to public school nursing in the 1970's. She worked as a school nurse for Conneaut School district. She continued to substitute for the Conneaut School district until this time. Glendora was very dedicated to Faith Geneva United Methodist Church. Over the years she also attended services at Mumford Chapel and Trinity United Methodist Church. No job at church was too big or too small for her. She was a quiet leader and very respected and loved by her church family. She regularly volunteered her time at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community. She was actively involved in the Conneaut Lake Historical Society. She was a founding member and worked on a regular basis at the Museum. She was a social member at the Conneaut Lake Fire Company and other organizations. She participated in the Harvard University Nurses' Health Study since the inception of the study and it is among the longest-running investigations of factors that influence women's health. Glendora's dedication to her family was well known by all who knew her. She often traveled to visit close and extended family members wherever they were. Glendora is survived by three children: Mina Adsit and her husband, Robert Lace, of Minneapolis MN; Melissa Adsit Reitnour and her husband, George of Phoenixville, PA; and Gregory Adsit and his wife, Diane of Geneva, PA. Her sister-in-law Nancy Larko of Meadville also survives her. She had five grandchildren: Arthur and John Lace; Thomas and Stephen Reitnour; and Sarah Adsit. Glendora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Abe Adsit, her sister Roberta Hawk Yerger Morgan, and 2 brothers Donald Hawk and Darrel Hawk. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday at the Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake, PA. The Memorial Service will be on Sunday at 1PM at Faith Geneva United Methodist Church, Geneva, PA with Rev. Christine Rogan, Pastor of the church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Geneva United Methodist Church, Geneva Memorial Cemetery Association or the Conneaut Lake Historical Society.
