Glenn C. Hammond

March 13, 1922 — February 24, 2019

Glenn C. Hammond, age 96, of Cambridge Springs, PA passed away peacefully at Fairview Manor February 24, 2019.

He was born March 13, 1922 at home in Bloomfield Township to the late Roy and Jessie (Heasley) Hammond.  He married Ethel Jane Grove in 1947 in the United Presbyterian Church in Cambridge Springs.

Glenn served in WW2 in the 83 rd Infantry Division of the Army as a Private 1 st class machine gunner.  He entered the service in September of 1942 and served in five campaigns including Normandy, Britany, Loire Valley, Hurtgen Forest, where he received a bronze star for arrival at their destination ahead of schedule, and the Ardennes.  He was honorably discharged in November 1945. Glenn was then employed as a welder.  His last position was at Greenleaf Corporation in Saegertown, PA until his retirement.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica and he was a member of Cambridge Springs Legion Post #381.

Glenn worshiped at United Presbyterian Church in Cambridge Springs for over 70 years, where he loved and appreciated his church family.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Rovin (Hammond) of Cambridge Springs, PA and a son, Keith Hammond of Erie, PA; his granddaughters Jessica Rovin of Park City, UT and Samantha Rovin of Port Townsend, WA and his grandson, Justin Lubman of Buffalo, NY and as of last year, he  became a great grandfather to Irina Lubman.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ethel; two brothers; Lawrence, who was killed in WW2 in Normandy, Donald and two sisters; Grace and Virginia; various nieces and nephews of Kentucky and the entire Culbertson family of Erie.

Family and friends are invited to call at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home in Meadville Tuesday February 26, 2019 from 7-9 p.m.  At 7 p.m. the Cambridge Springs American Legion Post #381 will conduct a Veteran’s service at the funeral home.  Calling will be Wednesday February 27, 2019 from 1-3 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church of Cambridge Springs, 338 South Main Street Cambridge Springs, PA. The service will take place at the church at 3 p.m. with Reverend Tommy O’Leary officiating. Interment will take place at Miller Station Cemetery with full military honors by Erie Crawford Veteran’s Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to HATHEWAY-TEDESCO FUNERAL HOME 614 BALDWIN ST. MEADVILLE, PA.
