Harriet Green Powell, 87, of Indiana, PA died Thursday January 22, 2026 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

Born in Erie, PA., July 21, 1938, she was a daughter of Henry and Marion Parker Green. She married Otwa (Ott) Powell on July 21, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2002.

She was a graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School. She earned her Bachelors of Science (1966) and Master’s Degree in Education (1970) at Edinboro State College.

Harriet had a 32-year career with Crawford Central School District as a first-grade teacher. She also worked for the Crawford Store, Shuco Shoes and Mason’s Department Store.

Harriet attended Bethel AME church and was a past member of the M.L. King Scholarship committee. She was a wonderful event planner for all of the Green and Powell family reunions.

Harriet touched the lives of all that she came into contact with and was a blessing to those in need.

Harriet love to travel, taking several trips to the islands and doing Anderson Bus Tours with the grandchildren.

Harriet is survived by two daughters, Elaine Powell Gates, Culpeper, VA; Sondra Marie Powell, Denver, CO. She has three sons, Robert Powell, Minneapolis, MN, Michael Powell (Pamela), Indiana, PA and Jeffrey Powell, Bullhead City, AZ.

Also left behind to cherish fond memories is sister-in-law, Annette Walls (Ed – deceased), Houston, PA. A loving cousin, Luther Manus (Connie), Erie, PA. Harriet also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Ebony Powell Mirra (Dion), Bradley Powell, Michael Lee Powell II, Jennifer Turner Echols (Wendell), Kevin McLaurin (Angie), Nicole, Amber and Derrick Gates; twelve great-grandchildren, Olivia Mirra; Christopher and Gabriel Powell; Jayla, Shilah, Ashton, Anakan and Jacee Powell; Wendell Jr., Julian and Liara Echols; Heaven, Keoni, Kevin, Kamron, Kamille, Kashmere and Joune McLaurin; and one great-great grandson, Te’leo Ford (McLaurin); and several cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Harriet was proceeded in death by her husband Otwa (Ott), son David, sister Sandra Thompson, brothers-in-law, Henry, Peter II, and Nathaniel Powell; and sister-in-law Eva Mae Jones.

Calling hours will be from 10 to 11am at Hatheway Tedesco Funeral Home, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA on Saturday January 31, 2026.

Homegoing services will immediately follow, with Deacon Michael Lee Powell officiating.

Private burial at Greendale Cemetery for immediate family.
