Hollis Hanson

Hollis E. Hanson, age 80, of Cambridge Springs, PA passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness on Tuesday June 3, 2025. He was born on October 14, 1944 in Tarrant County, Ft. Worth, TX to the late Archie and Denver (Robinson) Hanson. He married Sondra Steadman on May 19, 2007. She survives.

Hollis graduated from Brewer High School in Ft. Worth, TX in 1960. He worked on his family’s horse and cattle farm until he was 16 years old and then went to race horses on the race tracks as a jockey until he was drafted to the US Army in 1965. He served in the Army until 1966, when the helicopter he was flying was shot down. He then returned to the racetracks, where he was fondly known as “Holly” or “Tex.”

Hollis was of the Christian faith. He loved horses and the rodeo. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and camping. In his later years, he enjoyed watching Baywatch.

In addition to his loving wife of 24 years, he is survived by his daughter, Denver Osiro of Arlington, TX and his son, Jimmie Hanson of Meadville, PA; his grandchildren, Justin Erwin, Thresa and Travis Gomez and five great grandsons; his mother and father-in-law, Fredrick and Susan Steadman of Cambridge Springs, PA; his brother-in-law, Jeremy Steadman and his wife, Tabatha and their children, Sabrina, Alexis and Mackinzie of Erie, PA; his sisters-in-law, Marsha Chase and her husband, Brian and their children, Alicia (Cameron) and Isabelle(Cameron) of OH and Amanda Crocker and her husband, David and their children, Mary-Sue and Fredy of Greenville, SC and his cousin, Jerry Meadow.

There will be no services in PA. Hollis will be buried in Arlington, TX at Moore Memorial Gardens.
