Hugh Shields

January 2, 1932 — January 18, 2024

Hugh “Fuzzy” Shields, son of the late Clarence and Emma (Houk) Shields passed away on Thursday January 18, 2024.  Hugh was born in Greenville, PA on January 2, 1932. He married Virginia Courtney on July 26, 1952 and they celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in 2023.

Hugh graduated from Jamestown High School in 1949. He was first employed by Oakes & McClelland of Greenville. He then became a firefighter with the Greenville Fire Department where he was Fire Chief for 23 years.  He was also a longtime instructor with the Crawford County Fire School.

Hugh attended Atlantic Community Church. He was a member of the Fallowfield IOOF Lodge.  He was also an active member of the Lakeland Longbeards NWTF.  He was an avid hunter and a Hunter Education Instructor for many years. He and Virginia enjoyed camping and travelled to all 50 states.

In addition to his wife, Virginia  he is survived by his daughters, Sharon Creeks of Atlantic, PA, Debbie Temple and her husband, Don of Atlantic, PA, Kim Agnew and her husband, Bryan of Conneaut Lake, PA and Annette Hoover and her husband, Eric of Conneaut Lake, PA. He also has 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Louetta McBroom and his brother, Lysle Shields.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday January 21, 2024 from 6-8 pm and Monday January 22, 2024 from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N. 2nd St., Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.  Funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Harold Walton.  Hugh will be laid to rest at Rocky Glen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship Fund,c/o Merle Helbig 6675 Livingston Rd., Hartstown, PA 16131.
