Ima Jean Sapala

September 17, 1928 — December 28, 2020

Ima Jean Sapala, age 92, of Conneaut Lake, PA passed away at her residence on Monday, December 28, 2020.  She was born on September 17, 1928 in Cranesville, PA to the late Clifford C. and Elsie L. (Vandervort) Leonard.  She married Clyde A. Werger who preceded her in death on May 19, 1977.  She then married W. Walter Sapala who preceded her in death on March 8, 2010.

Jean moved to Greenville in her senior year from Albion School.  She then graduated from Greenville High School in 1947.  She worked at R.D. Werner Co. in Greenville for 35 years before retiring in 1988.

She was a lifetime member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Greenville.  She then attended Sheakleyville United Presbyterian Church in Sheakleyville.  She came to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Conneaut Lake in 2010.

Jean enjoyed getting together with her longtime friends from her working days at Werner’s. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jean is survived by one daughter, Nancy L. Irion and her husband, Robert M. of Conneaut Lake, PA;  one son, Clyde A. Werger of Allison Park, PA; one step-daughter, Patricia Hoffacker and her husband, Stanley of Hadley, PA; two step-sons, William W. Sapala and his wife, Hazel of Hadley, PA and David Sapala and his wife, Valorie of Sandy Lake, PA; one son-in-law, Ed McCurdy of Meadville, PA; grandchildren, Stacey Sabruno(Gino), Robert C. Irion (Kelly), Amy Soloski(Michael), Katrina Youschak(Steven), Christopher Werger (April), Shannon Werger, Daniel Sapala (Dana), Amy Luke (Ben), Cherie Bond(David), Matthew Hoffacker(Lena), Jared Hoffacker, Mariah McCurdy, Colton McCurdy(Meghan) and Jordan McCurdy; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde Werger and her husband, Walter Sapala; one son, James B. Werger; one daughter-in-law, Bridget Werger; one step-daughter, Pamela McCurdy; two sisters, Dorthea Lucille Hosack and Ruth S. Merritt and two brothers, John N. Leonard and William Leonard.

Due to COVID, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Interim Hospice of Erie, 2633 W. 8 th St., Erie, PA 16505.
