James Edward Hollerman, June 12, 1956-April 30, 2025, son of Charles E. and Catharine L. Hollerman. Jim passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning. Jim was an ardent mathematics instructor and a dedicated participant in local theater. He held a BS in both Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of South Dakota and an MS in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He taught Mathematics at both institutions before coming to Allegheny College in January 2003 as an Instructor in Mathematics, a position he held until his death. He was involved in theater in both Vermillion SD and Lincoln NE before joining the Meadville theater community, where played a variety of roles, in a variety of plays, with performances in Bertolt Brecht’s The Life of Galileo, David Auburn’s Proof, and William Mastrosimone’s The Woolgatherer particularly notable. Jim is survived by his mother, his sister Karen (Cody Perry) his brother Jeff, and youngest sister Pamela (Vincente) along with his much-beloved niece and nephews, Grace, Reid, and Jacob Stasolla. Jim would be honored by gifts to the Meadville Community Theater or the Allegheny College Mathematics Department. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service, but perhaps his math colleagues could attend a play together and his theater colleagues could get together for some pi.
