James Lang

December 20, 1941 — November 5, 2022

James Frederick Lang (80), of Conneaut Lake, PA, passed away on Saturday November 5, 2022, after a battle with lung cancer.

Jimmy, as he was known to family and friends, was born on December 20, 1941, in Meadville, PA to Milton E. Lang and Elizabeth A. (Reese) Lang.

He was a 1959 graduate of Cambridge Springs High School, and then enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served on the ship that picked up Col. John Glenn after his first earth orbit in 1962.

After being honorably discharged, he returned to Meadville where he worked at the Meadville Country Club for several years, and then opened the Villa Restaurant in Meadville, where he hosted several Bulldog Hockey Teams on their way to State Championships.  Many good memories were made at the Villa over the 12 years Jimmy owned it.  He later cooked at several restaurants in the Meadville and Conneaut Lake areas, although he probably would have had more success as a comedian. He requested that I be sure to mention that he “likes to drink and raise hell,” hoping people again remember him for his sense of humor, which he continued to show even during the last few challenging weeks of his life.

Jimmy was an avid golfer and fisherman.  He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steeler, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Meadville Bulldog Hockey team.  His greatest joy of all was spending time with his children and grandchildren, whom he absolutely loved and adored.

He is survived by his children Ian Lang and his wife Brooke of Canonsburg, PA; Brianne Lang and Todd Exley of Conneaut Lake, PA; his grandchildren Riley Mae Lang, Everett James Lang, and Dilynne Exley, all who will miss his conversations, hugs, and the unlimited treats he shared with them.

He is also survived by his brother Milton E. Lang, Jr. and sister Margaret Minnick, both of Meadville, PA, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his seven sisters, Rita Rolff, Carolyn Pavlik, Rose Stanford, Faye Culbertson, Lois Troutner, Marion Alexander, Lucille Bleasdale, and three brothers, Robert Lang, Donald Heffern, and Gary Lang.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Murray of the Erie Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Dr. Manisha Shende of Hamot Medical Center, Dr. Gurleen Pasricha, and the staff at the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute for the amazing care they provided.  A special thanks to everyone at Rolling Fields Eldercare Community and Aseracare Hospice for the compassionate care they gave him.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday November 12, 2022 at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335 from 2-4 pm.  Funeral service will take place at 4:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Hasenkopf officiating.   Military honors will be provided by VFW Post#2006.
