Jean Rhodes

Jean Lenore Rhodes passed away on Monday August 22, 2022 at Crawford County Care Center where she was a resident for the past ten years.  She was born in Meadville, PA on May 24, 1921, the daughter of Charles and Blanche (Guenther) Leffingwell.  She graduated from Meadville High School and her first job was at American Viscose.

Jean married Paul “Dusty” Rhodes on September 5, 1939.  He preceded her in death in July of 1989.  She was a stay at home mom for many years, and then began working at Conneaut Lake school cafeteria at both the elementary and high schools.  She was the Lunch Lady for 20 plus years before retiring at the age of 80.

Jean attended Trinity United Methodist Church for many years, singing in the choir in her early years and attending the Ladies’ Bible Study Group.  She was a longtime member of the Rebecca’s Lodge until they disbanded and the Atlantic Friends and Flower Club.   She enjoyed her flower garden, reading, playing cards, crafting and spending time visiting her friends.  She loved having family get-togethers for birthdays and holidays.  Her home was always nicely decorated for every holiday, something she loved to do.  She was a kind and gentle lady.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lawrence (Stan) and sons, Richard, Robert (Carol), Raymond and Randy (Denise); six grandchildren, Steven Rhodes (Theresa) of Conneautville, PA, Mark Lawrence (Stacy) of Pittsburgh, PA, Rob Rhodes of Las Vegas, NV, Jennifer Rhodes of Phoenix, AZ, David Rhodes (Jennifer) of Erie, PA and Brooke Roney (Tim) of Pittsburgh, PA and five great grandkids.  Also surviving are her brothers, Robert Leffingwell and Bill Leffingwell (Dorothy).

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly “Susie” Rhodes and two sisters, Martha Rudler and Shirley “Sis” Leffingwell and brothers, Marshall, Donald and Charles Leffingwell and daughters-in-law, Susanne Rhodes and Diane Rhodes.

Jean’s family would like to thank the staff at the Crawford County Care Center for the wonderful care that she received during her long stay.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday August 26, 2022 from 1- 2 pm at Dickson Funeral Home, 130 N. 2 ^nd St., Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.  Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Joy Mumford officiating.
