John R. Andrews

John R. Andrews, 97, of Conneaut Lake passed away Sunday May 22nd surrounded by his family.  He was born at home on May 5th, 1919 an only child to Grover C. Andrews and Lois Dennis Roloson.  John married Charlotte Birch Cotton in September 1942. John and his father were farmers and worked their own land and others for many years.  He graduated from East Fallowfield schools in 1937.  He loved the sport of baseball and frequently played on many local and county teams, and was selected to try out on the St. Louis Cardinals farm club team.  He was employed by Dunmeyers and Champion in Meadville, and retired from Werners in Greenville.  He was a member of the 5th Street Presbyterian Church in Conneaut Lake.    John had a passion for the outdoors and loved camping with his family and friends on his property at the pond.  His many hobbies included woodworking, RC planes and boats, and gardening.  His favorite place to vacation and camp was the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.  He loved mowing and he created a small golf course on his property to enjoy even though he never played the game.  He loved to turkey hunt with his cherished friends, and loved telling stories of their adventures up at the “Big Woods” and at his own property.    He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife of 74 years, Charlotte Birch Cotton, his son Ronald J. Andrews and wife Patricia of Meadville, Granddaughter Corianne L. Andrews of Pittsburgh, Grandson Zachary M. Andrews and wife Rebecca of Conneaut Lake, and his great-grandson Ian John Andrews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley who passed in 1950.  Calling hours will be Tuesday May 24th from 6 to 8PM at Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake, PA.  Funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 25th at 11:00AM at the funeral home, the Rev.
