John H. Bates

John H. Bates, age 63, of Erie, PA went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 29, 2013 at the home of his sister's, Kathleen, surrounded by his family. John was born on March 5, 1950 in Geneva, PA, the son of the late Howard and Rose (Foreman) Bates. He was a graduate of Linesville High School and received a degree in Philosophy from Edinboro. He had been a phone operator. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Air Force. He was of the Christian faith. He was an avid reader and enjoyed writing short stories. He liked to play the guitar, and loved his cats. He also studied the Bible. He is survived by two sisters; Kathleen Beebe of Conneautville, PA, and Alice Hall of Saegertown, PA, a sister-in-law, Carol Bates of Conneaut Lake, PA, three nephews; Michael Beebe, Brian Bates, Lonnie Hunter, three nieces; Tammy Clark, Robynne Hunter and Kerry Fedczak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bates and a brother-in-law, John G. Beebe. The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Dicksonburg Cemetery. Memorials, in his name, can be made to the American Cancer Society.
