John Furno

John Furno, age 80, of Saegertown, PA passed away at the Park Avenue Health & Rehabilitation Center, Meadville, PA. He was born February 24, 1934 in Meadville, PA the son of the late Dominick and Maria Nuzzulo Furno. He married Marsha Willey on July 4, 2000. She survives. He had previously worked at American Brakeshoe and in Las Vegas in his younger years. He had also managed the Stable Pit & Pub. He worked as a correction officer at the Crawford County Jail until 1969 when he was appointed to the position of Special Investigator for the Public Defender's Office of Crawford County. He took great pride in the rapport he had with the County Court system as well as in the State. He retired as Special Investigator for Crawford County in 2009. John was a notary, an honorary member of the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Association and a member o f the Italian Civic Club (ICC) in Meadville, PA. He was a Golden Glove Boxer. He loved sports, fishing, hunting and gardening. He enjoyed traveling with the San Diego Padres during the 70's and 80's. He served in the United States Army and he traveled throughout Europe playing for the Army baseball team as a pitcher and for the Army football team as a linebacker. He had an excellent voice and was always singing. John was a loving husband and a very compassionate man who loved animals, especially his pet rescue cats, TommyCat and CallieCat. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Furno of Saegertown, PA a son; James Furno of Meadville, PA and a brother Alfred Furno of Meadville, PA, a step-daughter; Diane Steffen and her husband John of Meadville, PA and a step-son; Lynn Willey and his wife Jessie of Watertown, CT, and step-twin granddaughters, Hailey and Maggie Willey. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father Dominick Furno and his mother Maria Nuzzulo Furno of Meadville, PA, six brothers; Angelo of San Antonio, Florida, Anthony of Erie, PA, Frank, Albert and Mattio and Dominick Jr. all of Meadville, PA, five sisters, Angie Furno, Ann Guthrie, Ethel Evans of Meadville, PA, Lucy Perry of Conneaut Lake, PA, and infant Angelina Furno and a son, Douglas J. Furno of Meadville, PA There will be no public viewing and services will be private. Memorials can be made to the Crawford County Humane Society Veterinary Hospital, 1116 Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335 Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335
