John Charles Jardine, age 82, of Austin, TX passed away on Thursday June 5, 2025 at Juniper Village at Spicewood Summit.
He was born in Mineloa, NY on March 7, 1943 to the late William Edward and Lela Violet (Greer) Jardine, but grew up in Bay City, MI, the home of his paternal grandfather. He graduated from Delta College (now Saginaw Valley State University) and Central Michigan University and also attended Western Michigan University.
A retired Master Sergeant, he served in the US Army in Vietnam at Dau Tieng, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh Bay, Bien Hoa and Long Binh, in Korea at Daejon and Daegu and in the United States at Ft. Knox, Ft. Lee, and Ft. Hood, Ft. Carson and Ft. Baker, employed in the infantry and various administrative positions. Among his awards were the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendations Medal. He retired in Austin, TX. John was a passionate genealogist for both the Greer and the Jardine families traveling throughout the United States to personally perform research and gather documentation regarding the histories and branches of both families. He was also an avid stamp collector and amassed a substantial and diverse collection of stamps from all over the globe.
John had no siblings and no children. He is survived by his first cousin, Alan Charles Jardine of Big Sur, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first cousins, Neal Jay Jardine, Duane Blakeslee and Maxine Headrick Lobins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday June 12, 2025 at 11:00 am at Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville, PA.
