CONNEAUT LAKE John Doran McDonald Jr., 67, of Conneaut Lake, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Allegheny General Hospital surrounded by family. John was born in Pittsburgh on Oct. 20, 1946, the son of the late John Doran McDonald Sr. and Margaret E. Becker McDonald. John was raised by an older sister, Mary Claire McDonald. On Aug. 12, 1966, he married Donna Jean Vincenti McDonald, who preceded him in death on June 29 2004. He later married Janet D. Yoder McDonald on Feb. 14, 2008. John spent the majority of his life as a tow boat captain in the Pittsburgh area and in 1995 he retired from Pittsburgh Tug. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, Conneaut Lake. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years; going to auctions and traveling; and wintered in Florida since 2000. Everywhere he went, he always made a friend. In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sons, John L. McDonald and his wife, Karen, of Meadville, and David M Yoder and his wife, Melissa, of Severn, Md.; and a daughter, Jennifer D. von Harten and her husband, Aaron, of Medina, Ohio. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Cody McDonald, Christopher McDonald, Robert Yoder, Leah Yoder, Paul Yoder, Victoria von Harten, Christian von Harten and Faith von Harten. Also surviving are two sisters, Claire Pushak of Evans City and Thelma Schnelbach of Carnegie; a brother-in-law, Paul Faller of Pittsburgh; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Benson and her husband, Bob, of Imperial, and Susan Dye of Cochranton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan Faller. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N. Second St., Conneaut Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, Conneaut Lake, with Father Jeff Lucas as celebrant.
