John J. Swasta, age 70, of Meadville passed away July 13, 2019 at Meadville Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born on July 31, 1948 in Meadville to the late Joseph F. and Molly T. (Stellato) Swasta. He married Wannetta Nichols. She survives.
John attended Meadville High School. He enlisted in the the United States Army where he was an engineer mechanic. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was employed by Rusko Industries and most recently at Syst-A-Matic Tool.
John was of Christian faith. He was a member of VFW Post 52. He loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Wannetta; Wannetta’s children, Julia Nichols and her son, Nathan of Meadville and Phillip Nichols and his wife, Ann of Meadville; one sister, Judith Cornell and her husband, Robert of Meadville; three nephews, Dr. Robert J. Cornell, Christopher C. Cornell, PhsyD. and Joseph Michael Swasta ; and close friends Mike Call and Andy Massey.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Jim; his neighbor and close friend, Pat Corey and his faithful companion Cookey.
A private graveside service will take place with full military honors at Greendale Cemetery.
