Joseph Fielding Tatters

Joseph Fielding Tatters, age 81 of Meadville, PA passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born February 23, 1932 in Turtle Creek, PA the son of the late James Oliver Tatters and Mary Smith McIntyre Tatters. He married Marcella M. Webster in 1957. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1979. He subsequently married Shirley M. Swartz on September 27, 1997. She survives. He was of the Baptist Faith. He retired from the Erie-Lackawanna-Conrail Rail Road where he worked for numerous years. He also retired from Meadville Junior High School where he worked for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He was a member of the VFW Post 2006, Meadville, PA, the Cambridge Springs American Legion Post 381, the ICC Club, West Mead II Fire Department, the Meadville Club and the Meadville Eagles Club. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching football especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed socializing with his friends, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Tatters, of Meadville, PA; a son, Joseph Tatters, of Meadville, PA, a son Ron Tatters of Meadville, PA, a daughter, Deborah Ann Manross and her husband, Mike of Meadville, PA, a son, Glenn Tatters and his wife, JoAnn of Meadville, PA; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who he loved and adored spending time with. He is further survived by a niece, Judy Thompson and her husband, Larry and by several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, and his wife, Marcella M. Tatters, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Tatters, two sisters, Martha Patterson and Burness Figgins, and by four brothers, Jim O. Tatters, Johnie Tatters, Charles Tatters, and Kenny Tatters. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335. Family and Friends are welcome to attend the funeral service on Sunday at 11 AM at the funeral home with Brandon M. Manross, his grandson, officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2006. Burial will be in the Kingsley Cemetery, Townville, PA.
