Joyce M. Farkas, 90, died at home January 2nd with family by her side. She was born in Washington D.C. to parents Thomas E. and Aloysia O’Connor. In 1949 she was married to her husband John who preceded her in death in 2014. As a USMC wife, Joyce travelled extensively within the United States before settling in PA, most recently in Conneaut Lake, where she was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas church. In her later years, after the death of her beloved husband John, she resided in Pittsburgh with several of her daughters. Previous to John’s passing, Joyce and John were active as Eucharisitic ministers and church greeters at OLQA. She was also a member of the Altar Rosary society and the Care and Concern group. At various times Joyce was a Hospice volunteer, a member of Big Brothers and Sisters and an active Compassionate Friends volunteer. She was a member of the Conneaut Lake Players, a local group who performed plays, and she enjoyed writing for the Meadville Tribune and the Conneaut Lake Breeze. The mother of 7 children, she was preceded in death by her youngest, Andrew, in 1982. She is survived by five daughters: Susan Mullen, Lisa (Mickey) Howard, Julie Jones, Tracey (Joe) Chriest and Angela Farkas. She also has one son John E. (Sue) Farkas . She will be missed by her 16 grandchildren: Jennifer (Eric) Heiselman, Kate (Laura) Mullen, Lisa (Kristi) Mullen, Maureen Kosin, Annie Corbin, Luke Farkas, Sam Farkas, Henry Farkas, Jessica Marshall, Dustin (Rosemary) Howard, Emily (Jimmy) Stranahan, Michael (Maggi) Jones, Andy (Ally) Schlosser, Max Schlosser, Beatrice Burke and Louisa Burke. She is survived by 18 Great grandchildren: Emmet Howell, Elliot Howell, Levi Zurbrugg-Mullen, Edie Zurbrugg-Mullen, Thomas Mullen, Michael Kosin, Johah Kosin, Sam Kosin, Arianne Corbin, Darius Corbin, Addison Howard, Olivia Marshall, Molly Marshall, Alex Stranahan, Jack Stranahan, Deacon Stranahan, Liam Schlosser and Kellan Schlosser. Last but not least Joyce was an avid animal lover and leaves behind her companion Abby, a rescue dog from Crawford County Humane Society.
