June Louise Griggs, age 86, of Conneaut Lake, passed on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at UPMC Hamot. June was born on June 30, 1930 in Meadville, PA, to the late Henry Devenny and Mazie (Bunce) Devenny. She married Carl L. Griggs on October 22, 1951 in Conneaut Lake. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2013. June graduated from Meadville High School in 1948. She then attended West Penn Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951. Later in her 60’s she also attended Edinboro University and was in the top of her Criminology class. During June’s nursing career she worked at Spencer Hospital, Meadville Medical Center and hospitals in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Phoenix, AZ; She was a truant officer in the Conneaut Lake Schools from September of 1958 until December of 1960; She worked as the Conneaut Lake Park nurse until 1965; She worked at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community until 1989; She worked at St. Paul’s of Greenville until 1997; She worked at Walmart until April of 2016. Surviving June are two Sons; Thomas Griggs and his wife Barbara of Hartstown, PA and Gary Griggs of Conneaut Lake, PA. five Grandchildren; Shawnya Griggs and her companion Ivan Mast of Meadville, PA, Deanna Griggs-Byler and her husband Ben of Conneaut Lake, PA, Kelly Griggs of Hartstown, PA, Joanna Benavidez and her husband Master Chief Michael of Maryland and Coulter Griggs of Oregon, three Great Grandchildren; Cody Lewis, Landyn Byler and Taylor Byler, three Step-Great Grandchildren; Ashley, Anthony and Addison Benavidez. Many Nieces and Nephews. Preceding June in death were her parents, husband and her sister Margaret Elizabeth Griggs. The family would like to thank Richard and Barbara Patton and Chuck Jessup for going above and beyond with special care to June. They would also like to thank Dr. Gregory Beard and the trauma team of Hamot. Calling hours will be on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 3PM – 5PM at the Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N. June was proud to be accepted to train with the American Ballet Company in New York City, but her mother insisted that she go to nursing school.
