Kathie Baum

Kathie A. Baum, 82, of Conneaut Lake, PA passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Senior Living Community Nursing Home, on February 22, 2022.  She was born January 4, 1940, in Kittanning, PA to the late J. Ralph and Grace (McIntyre) Leister. Kathie was a 1957 graduate of Kittanning High School, where she was the lead majorette.  After two years of attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she married John ‘Jack’ Baum on June 25, 1960, eventually moving to Conneaut Lake in 1972 with her family.

Kathie was one of the first female volunteer firefighters in the state, serving her community for 18 years and was honored as a life member of the Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department.  She was a homemaker, primarily, but also worked numerous years at PennBank.

Kathie had many interests that kept her busy.  She loved making crafts, which included wreathes, flags, clothes and hats. Kathie enjoyed baking, cooking, and sharing her recipes with many generations. She was also a former motorcycle rider.  Kathie was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. She looked forward to the winter months and the snow that accompanied them.

Kathie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Baum.

Kathie will be remembered fondly by family and friends and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four children – J. Eric Baum (Edie), Scott Baum, Amy Baum, and Missy Rowles; six grandchildren – Kaitie Reichel (Zach), Hanna Baum, Ashlee Rowles (fiancé Andrew Kosar), Emily Baum, Lauren Baum, and Cooper Baum; two great grandchildren – Aiden Reichel and Aurora Reichel; her sister Jean Howard; sister-n-law Nancy Kordes, nephew Jeff Kordes ,and niece Kristen Kordes.

Per Kathie’s wishes there will be no funeral or memorial service.  The family is planning a private celebration of Kathie’s’ life.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization ( https://www.alz.org/ ) or Kindred Hospice 1119 Park Ave. #7, Meadville, PA 16335.
