Kathleen Levinsky

March 9, 1949 — March 5, 2021

Kathleen Sue Levinsky, 72, of Meadville has died after a long illness.  Born in Akron, Ohio on March 9, 1949 to Verne K. and Patricia G. Willey, she is survived by her beloved sister, Michelle Mason (David Birnie) of Marshfield, MA; her son, Michael Levinsky (Tami Chaney Lewis) of Knoxville, TN, and her grandson, Maximus Levinsky of Uniontown, OH, currently a student at Allegheny College.  Mike and Max were sources of most of the joy in Kathleen’s life.  She could not believe how very fortunate she was to have been blessed with them.

She also leaves behind many dear cousins, close friends and colleagues with whom she shared so many laughs, occasional tears and cherished memories.  Her best friend of nearly 60 years, Bobbie Perry, of Meadville with whom she shared all the good and the ugly also survives her.  She was pre-deceased by her parents and her brother, Franklin (Tad) Willey.

A no nonsense woman with a great deal of determination and grit, Kathleen was diagnosed with kidney cancer and given a one year prognosis almost three years ago but she did not let that stop her.  She was an outgoing and friendly person who was always available to lend a hand.   A real people person, she also had exceptional organizational and management skills which served her well in all aspects of her life.  She loved to cook for others and frequently entertained her friends or baked them cakes and cookies.

An avid reader, Kathleen patronized the Meadville Public Library and frequently gave her favorite books as much appreciated gifts.  Author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be”, was a particular favorite, as was Truman Capote.  She was a talented seamstress and most recently made many attractive pandemic masks to share with family and friends.  She also enjoyed film and frequently attended the local offerings after which she would share her frank and unsparing critique.  She had a collection of favorite films on DVD which she liked to re-watch and also gift to others.

A devoted grandmother, Kathleen loved having her grandson close by as an Allegheny student and she attended many cultural events at the college.  Well known and well loved she will be remembered and missed by many.  The family wishes to thank Dr. Rebecca Lashbrook, Meadville Medical Center Cardiac Unit, Hospice of Crawford County, and the caring staff at Marquette Hospice House for their support and care during her illness.  Cremation has taken place and burial at sea will follow.   Memorial donations may be made to the Meadville Public Library: meadvillelibrary.org  or the Marquette Hospice House in care of Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
