Leon Sopher

March 19, 1945 — December 30, 2021

Leon Arthur Sopher Jr. (Skip), age 76, of Conneaut Lake, PA passed away on December 30, 2021 in Erie, PA after a long battle with heart disease.  He was born on March 19, 1945 in Titusville, PA to the late Leon Arthur Sr. and Charlotte Ruth (Crissman) Sopher.  He married Carol Zimmer on July 2, 1986.  She survives.

Skip graduated from Saegertown High School in 1965.  He attended Edinboro University.  He was a tour bus driver for Ice Capades and school bus driver and also a care giver for troubled youth and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Skip had a close personal relationship with God.  He loved spending time with family and his pets, mowing his yard, Steelers football, Nascar, fishing and feeding wild birds.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by two daughters, Patty Crooks and her husband, Jim of Berlin Center, OH and Sue King and her fiancé, Tony Brown of Monroe, NC and two bonus daughters, Tammy Muckinhaupt Henry and her companion, Donna Spellman and JoAnne Muckinhaupt Gibson and her husband, Skye and two sons, Doug Sopher and his wife, Beckey of Riddlesburg, PA and Christopher Sanders and his wife, April of Waynsboro,PA and one bonus son, Robert B. Muckinhaupt and his wife, Theresa of Conneaut Lake, PA; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; two sisters, Trudy Whieman of Cambridge Springs, PA and Kathy Brunner and her husband, Larry of Guys Mills, PA; three brothers, James Sopher and his wife, Marlene of Meadville, PA, Patrick Sopher and his wife, Linda of North Huntington, PA and Philip Sopher of Strattenville, PA and several nieces and nephews.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Margaret Wishnok; an infant sister, Rita Dawn and a brother-in-law, Tom Whitman.

There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.  Skip will be interred at Denny Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
