Louis Mastro

March 27, 1924 — July 23, 2008

Louis graduated from Meadville High School in 1942 where he played football, basketball, and track & field. He was in the US Navy during WWII from 1943-1946, Pharmacists Mate 2nd Class. He married Jennie Figerell on Sept. 5, 1953; she preceded him in death on April 10, 1959. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. He worked for Erie Railroad, was self-employed at Mastro's Red & White in Fifth Ward, worked for Meadville Italian Bakery, Hi Lite Lounge, PPG Safety Director. He was a member of the Italian Civic Club. He also coached the inaugural little gridder's football championship team, The Steelers. He was a die-hard thoroughbred horse racing fan. He played college football for Edinboro State Teacher's College, played semi-pro football for the Meadville Zippers. He played semi-pro baseball for Meadville teams that played against barnstorming negro league teams.
