Louis Running

October 1, 1934 — August 25, 2024

Louis Running, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife, Dorothy, by his side on August 25th, 2024. He was 89 years old.
Louis was born on October 1st, 1934, in Bristolville, OH, to the late Eugene C. and Florence E. (Castile).
He graduated from Randolph High School and then proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He was an instructor in the Aircraft and Engine Mechanic School from 1954-1958. It was there that he married the love of his life, Dorothy Trevethan, on September 7th, 1954. She survives.

After his time in the military, he worked for 27 years at American Viscose, then worked in concrete construction, and eventually retired from Saegertown Manufacturing Company as a die loader after 13 years. Louis discovered a passion for guitar making in 1986, teaching himself the intricate craft. Over the years, he handcrafted dozens of guitars, fiddles, and other stringed instruments.

Retirement brought Louis and Dorothy to Fountain, Florida, where they began a new chapter of their lives. In Florida, he continued his craft while forging new friendships through a home church group where music, worship, and good food were always present.

Music was a central part of Louis and Dorothy’s lives. They cherished attending music jams and often danced the night away in Panama City to the songs they loved so much.

Louis Running will be remembered for his warmth, creativity, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on through the music he created and the love he shared with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Lou Eels of Meadville, PA, and his son, Ronald Eugene Running and his wife, Ila, of Saegertown, PA; his grandchildren Jamie Hall and Ryan Running; and 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Merle Running of Linesville, PA, and Gerald Running of Traverse City, MI, his son-in-law Clint Eels, and his grandson, Jerry Hall.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 30th, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Chapel, 17045 Conneaut Lake Rd., Meadville, PA 16335. The funeral will take place at 12:00 PM in the chapel, and burial will immediately follow.
